Maths Quiz

This is the first entry test for maths of the Bioinformatics and Systems Biology Master at the Vrije Universiteit. 

The purpose of this test is to allow you to assess your proficiency in maths, one of the three core fields of knowledge you are expected to learn early on in the master. It contains questions at the entry level of the Master, meaning we expect you to be able to so these questions without extra practice. If you can't, don't worry - in the first period of the Master we offer conversion classes to get you up to scratch in the fields you're less experienced in.

If you struggle with these questions, we strongly recommend you do some extra exercises relating to the topics of:

• Rewriting powers
• Linear algebra
• Fractions
• Systems of Equations
• Derivations

There are many online resources to find question within these fields, we recommend Khan Academy for exercises and explanations and 3Blue1Brown for general explanation. A good Google search will find you all the exercises you'll need. Experience learns that ensuring basic knowledge really helps with reducing the workload and stress at the start of the first period.

It is not required to pass this test before starting the Master, although we do recommend practicing if you notice your performance on this test is low.
