Course Settings

As a teacher you are able to change course settings. However, many of these settings have already been configured properly for you. Therefore, you do not have to change anything in these course settings, unless you have a very specific reason to do so.

There are two Course Settings that you will probably be using regularly (which have been covered in previous pages):

However, if you are curious to learn more about the other Course Settings you can watch the videos below.

NB: Some of the options mentioned in these videos are disabled in our VU Amsterdam Canvas environment. Below these videos we mention the differences between what is shown in the video and the possibilities of the VU Amsterdam Canvas environment.

In the VU Amsterdam Canvas environment:

  • We have upgraded the storage quota to:

    • Course quota: 5 GB
    • User quota: 500 MB
    • Group quota: 500 MB

Note: Attachments to an ungraded group discussion will only count towards the student’s quota. Submissions/Attachments to graded assignments/discussions will not count towards any quota.

  • You cannot change the name of your course or the course code
  • You should not change the time zone
  • You should not override the term dates

In the VU Amsterdam Canvas environment:

  • You cannot add external apps (using LTI)
  • You should not conclude your course
  • You should not permanently delete your course
  • You should not reset your course content
