5 Ways to use Padlet in HE Links to an external site.Organize group work with Padlet
Students can collaborate easily via Padlet. They can post messages, share resources and collaborative documents, or exhibit their finished group project to tutors or other students. Padlet can also work for more short term group work, for example if you are holding a group teaching session on Zoom and you’ve broken students up into breakout rooms then you could ask for each group to post their group’s thoughts or notes onto Padlet, this way you capture all your students thoughts and allow them to be easily shared with other groups.
Use Padlet for a space for backchannel and Q&A
Padlet can be used as a backchannel for a module. Share the Padlet with students and let them know it’s an area for them to post ideas and questions. This can be a good alternative to using Canvas Discussions as students can post questions anonymously on Padlet which may encourage them to post more often. You also have more freedom how you answer student questions, for example with a video or voice recording.
Use Padlet as a social space
Padlet can also be used as a social space, allowing students to connect with each other. For example, at the start of a module a Padlet could be created for students and staff to introduce themselves. You could ask every student to create a short video recording introducing themselves, other students then have the option to reply to each other and form a social connection.

Why would I use Padlet on the VU Amsterdam account?
With a VU account, you can use the payed version of Padlet for free. This allows you to create more than two canvases and you can use more functions. The VU version also guarantees the safety of you and your students. The VU has a Processor Agreement with Padlet in which Padlet guarantees to not use the teacher and student data for anything else but your own use. In view of the EU and Dutch privacy regulations (GDPR) teachers may only use the VU license of Padlet. If students ask you how VU Amsterdam handles their data, you can refer to the VU Digital student guide. Receive a VU account for Padlet by contacting onderwijswerkplaats@vu.nl.

In principle, everyone can contribute to a padlet that is shared with them. This can be anonimously or using an account. Do you want only to have known users view and edit a padlet? You then need to share it in such a way that students can login with their VU account. Read more about how to do that

The VU has a contract and a data processing agreement with the supplier. These contain all kinds of provisions that prohibit the supplier from using personal data of VU employees and VU students for their own purposes (such as reselling). There are also a variety of security agreements in the agreement about when employees of the supplier may view data (almost never) that enters the application and what the supplier must do to minimize the chance that third parties can view or change data.
To guarantee the privacy and security, of teachers and students, it is important that you use this tool with a VU account instead of a private account.
